Do you want to find the cheapest plane tickets possible for your next destination? Then, this article is for you!

Travelling does not have to be expensive. If you plan your trip in advance and use the proper strategies you will save a lot of money and you will be able to travel more often. Learn how to find the cheapest plane tickets!

Often times, people complain and say that you have to have lots of money in order to travel. But those people don’t realise that they already have the money they need, yet they spend twice the amount on things they don’t need, in the city that they live in.

How do I pick my next destination?

I do a thurow search on all flight ticket options. I try to find the best price in the time period that I can allocate for that specific trip. You can sometimes get better deals if the airline has a special anniversary sales event or other offers.

When & how to book?

You have to get your airplane tickets a while in advance but you don’t have to book them a year before your departure date.

It is hard to keep up with price changes and specials on airplane tickets but fortunately you have a few options to keep you updated to any fare changes.

Which are the websites to find cheapest airplane tickets?

  1. Skyscanner has to be my favorite because of how well the is organized and because of its friendly interface
  2. Momondo is another search engine that a lot of travellers use. You can check prices for different dates and it is helpful if you are flexible
  3. Google flights as the name suggests, is Google’s search engine. It is a great way to see which airlines have flights to your desired destination

The sites are easy to use and kind of intuitive so you won’t need any guidance on how to use them.

While there are many other search engines curated towards flights, these are the ones I trust and use for planing all of my holidays.

Leave your options open

Everything you need to do is to have a few destinations in mind (either a city or a country) and you need to think when you would want to go there. After you decide on that, you can select and save the dates & destinations and set up the email notifications. If there are any changes to proces, you will be notified.

You should check multiple dates because that is why how you will figure out which one is the most affordable.

There will be a lot of price fluctuations and you have to check your email regularly. If you really want to go somewhere, you can make it happen on a budget!

Misconceptions about finding cheap tickets

Lots of people say to go incognito mode on your browser when searching for tickets. The explanation would be that the sites will be able to see through your search history. Another way to get rid of price differences between countries would be to use a VPN to book your ticket. Even when switching currencies, there could be big price differences.

There are lots of myths when it comes to finding the cheapest flights, but I did not find their purpose honestly. You should find what method works for you and go with it.

The main thing is that you have to be flexible with the departure dates and the luggage allowance.

When you are searching you can set the engine to go through the cheapest month.

You can do this if your schedule is flexible because you will find better offers. Or you can view prices for a full month and compare the days in that month to see which one is cheaper.

There is no magic formula

You can save a lot of money if you opt in for a layover. Having a longer layover may mean that you will be able to even visit another city without spending more money. For example you can have a layover in Singapore, Shanghai, Doha or Istambul. Sometimes the airlines even offer tours in those cities for those that have a longer layover.

Pay attention to details

If you have a layover, you need to make sure that you have enough time between the flights. You also have to check how your luggage is being transported as well. If you luggage is being transferred by the company, there is no need to worry about it. If you are the one that has to handle the luggage changes then you will need more time as it can get complicated.

Who I buy from?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the first results that will show up, will be from third parties that are just reselling tickets from the airlines. This means that the first results are not offers that come from the airline itself. These tickets are usually cheaper because you are dealing with a reseller and not with the company that will fly you out. If any problem comes up, you will have to solve it by discussing it with the reseller. Make sure to read the online reviews and that you understand the terms and conditions.

Beware of hidden fees

Another thing to keep an eye on are the terms and conditions. Some resellers will have a comission on payments made with a credit card. Also, some prices don’t include the luggage or the seat but if you went and booked straight from the airline you would have those included in the final price. So travelers, beware!

Once you found out what are the days that have good fares, go to the airline’s website and book your tickets from there. You are better off getting your tickets straight from there.

Sharing is caring

I bought tickets to London for 5€. I traveled to Paris, Milano, Munich and Eindhoven for as low as 10-20€. Toronto? Only 325€. An exotic destination? Mauritius tickets for 350€.
